To say Blueherts had the better start on Saturday would be an understatement. Dereham found themselves 3 goals down within the first 6 minutes, and faced an uphill struggle from that moment on. An open play goal and two short corners meant that a tough task turned nearly impossible. Blueherts were firing on all cylinders, and could have added further goals before Dereham got going.

When the dust settled, Dereham slowly started to work their way back into the game, and there was a big midfield battle between the two sides. Dereham had a couple of gilt edged chances to claw back the lead before half time, but were unable to capitalise, and went in to the break 3 goals down.

Dereham started the second half strongly, and again pushed forward putting the Blueherts defence under pressure, but once again were unable to capitalise. As they pushed forward to try to reduce the lead, inevitably gaps at the back were left, and Blueherts were able to exploit these gaps with a further shot corner, and swiftly followed with a 5th from open play.

It was 5-0 to the home side with 10 minutes to play. Laurie Hill took a quick sideline hit, and sent a long aerial forwards, expertly controlled by Sam Plater, who laid the ball of to captain Mark Timm who coolly slotted home at the back post, 5-1.

A minute later, with the home team already having one man in the sin bin, the game took a significant turn, as the umpire sent the Blueherts keeper to the sin bin for a needless foul in the D. Andy Lawrence stepped up, and coolly slotted the resulting flick home past the stand in keeper, 5-2 - queue the chaos.

Blueherts lost their discipline, and a further player was ordered off the pitch, reducing the home team to just 8 men. Dereham pressed forwards and won a short corner. With no recognized keeper on the pitch, Hill drag flicked the ball high into the centre of the goal, 5-3. The home crowd were starting to get edgy, and their over exuberance led to one of the spectators being ordered to leave the pitch.

Dereham pushed further forward, and as the ball broke free in the D, Hill was on hand once more to bury a reverse stick shot into the net, 5-4, and Dereham had scored 3 goals in 3 minutes.

At this point the umpire brought the Blueherts keeper back on, and as Dereham pushed further forward looking for an astonishing equaliser, further gaps were left at the back, and Blueherts broke free to win another short corner. Having already claimed a hat trick, the Blueherts player stepped up, and buried a 4th drag flick to ensure the victory for Blueherts
