Style finesse, grace and precision, just a few of the things which were absent during this game, when these teams met under a wintry sky.
However it was the men in red who made alll the running (jogging) with several surges into the opposition D.
Unfortunately the surging had a tendency to stop short of the goal line, something which continued throughout the game with many chances going begging.
Not to be outdone the defence in an attempt to prove they could be as inept as the forward line failed to defend a short corner, although it was finished with a fine strike to put the visitors 1-0 ahread.
Ipswich played the ball around confidently and forced another couple of corners whilst Dereham played with themselves in the centre of the pitch only to tread on the ball inside the D.
The best chance fell to Matin Bohn, who hammered his shot from 2 yards out only for it to be well stopped on the line by a defender. Although he gets full marks for getting it on target.
Just before half time Shane appearing from nowhere stroked the ball into the goal to make it 1-1.
After half time the game resumed it's rather depressing routine of Dereham attacking, passing them staring accusingly at eachother when they didnt score.
With 20 minutes left Ian mistakenly touched the the ball following another shot by Shane. Completely out foxed by a Dereham striker actually touching the ball with his stick and not a foot the keeper let it elude him to put Dereham in the lead.
Proving that lightning can indeed strike, or in this case trickle twice in the same place twice Ian again scored again from short range, albeit with a slightly stronger touch to make the score 3-1.
Had there been any crowd Ii am sure they would have gone home early.
With Bury suffering a shock defeat to Felixstowe this puts Dereham second, but for how long? Tune in for next weeks tepid installement
