Crostyx 0 Dereham Men's 1st XI 1
Dereham were able to put aside the distractions of a break in to one of the teams vehicles when they changed at Walthamstow to claim 3 points from the side placed 3rd in Prem A on Saturday. The break in caused a 30 minute delay, and Dereham were determined to make the most of the remainder of the day.
They started strongly, and forced Crostyx onto the back foot early on. There were early chances for Sam Plater and Laurie Hill both of which were well saved by the Crostyx keeper. Laurie Hill was in inspiring form attacking from just behind the frontman, and causing problems to the Crostyx defence. It was Hill's mazy run and reverse stick shot which lead the way for the Dereham winner, when Callum Callinan pounced upon the save made by the keeper to finish low into the corner.
Hill was able to cause havoc thanks mainly to the hard work and support of Will Edwards and Andy Lawrence in the centre of the park. The Timm brothers (Mark and Mike) were free to run at the Crostyx defence on both wings and created further chances for the forwards.
The second half was started in a similar vein, and it was the dominance of the midfield which ensured that the Dereham goals was rarely under threat. As the game drew closer to a close, Crostyx pushed harder to gain an equaliser, but Dereham stood firm, and thanks to man of the match Mark Hunter, the Dereham keeper had very little to do all game, with only a couple of saves necessary. Dereham came close to increasing their lead late on, but Plater could only see his shot come back off the post.
Following a disappointing start to the season, Dereham are starting to get the results there performances early on deserved. The hard work of the midfield and defence has paid off, and they have recorded 3 consecutive clean sheets.
