Dereham Men's 1st XI 3 Wisbeach 0 "GOALTIME" @ Greenfields Having achieved their first points of the season, Dereham were able to increase their tally further with a win over bottom side Wisbeach on Saturday. It wasn't as pretty a performance as some of the others they have completed this season, but is was effective. Dereham's grit and determination saw them home, and this was cccc by man of the match Richard Timm who controlled the game from the heart of the Dereham defence, despite an injury that had prevented him from training all week. It was in fact Timm who set up Dereham's first goal which was a route one effort with a long ball straight down the middle of the pitch which Callum Callinan latched on to, and passed to Sam Plater to round the oncoming keeper and roll the ball into the back of the net. Wisbeach's chances were limited to a few in the first half, most of which failed to hit the target. The did break through once, but a combination of a last ditch tackle from Mark Timm, and Tom Vaughan's save prevented halted the Wisbeach striker, and Mark Hunter was on hand to tidy up and clear the ball. Wisbeach were more determined in the second half, but were unable to breach the Dereham defence, and eventually Dereham pushed further forward leading to a series of short corners. Michael Timm effectively killed off the tie by adding a second following up Laurie Hill's drag flick with a finish high into the roof of the Wisbeach net. As Wisbeach pushed further forward, defensive frailties were exposed by the youth and pace of the Dereham attack, forcing a number of saves from the Wisbeach keeper. Dereham added the third through another short corner where once again Hill's initial flick was saved, but this time Mark Hunter was on hand to hit the follow up low and hard into the back of the net. Dereham will take confidence from the result, knowing that they possess the ability to "win ugly". |
