Dereham IV’s vs Thetford II’s

Result 2-0

Dereham knew that this fixture was going to be another tough one and for the first 15 minutes struggled against the Thetford midfield. Chinks of space began to appear and eventually Dereham’s spirits lifted and they began to fight back. Player of the match Hannah Dewing found space on the right wing but crosses into the D were picked up by the Thetford defence. Play was evenly spread with both teams having chances. Fran Leverett and Emma Milton were key to the Dereham defence making crucial tackles and sweeping the ball to safety. Liz Tarry in goal made two critical saves which kept Dereham’s heads up. At the other end Dereham were awarded a few short corners but it was on the fourth occasion, 5 minutes from the half time whistle that Dewing struck the injection cleanly and found the back board of the Thetford goal.

The half time talk rallied the young Dereham side and a reshuffle of positions showed positive reults in the second half. Dewing was moved into the centre midfield position and she created more opportunities for the Dereham forwards. Thetford were still working hard and Dereham knew it was going to be a matter of fitness to keep the score in their favour. Thetford were still creating opportunities in the Dereham circle but in the second half Sam Colman lifted her game and she and Fran Grapes made solid clearances out to the right. With 10 minutes to go, Dereham secured their lead with a shot by Jackie Taylor from a rebound. Thetford fought back but the score remained Dereham IV’s 2 Thetford II’s 0.
